1873年任职法兰西公学院的德理文侯爵由于把古典话本集《今古奇观》的部分内容翻译为法文而被广大的法国读者所熟悉。他的译文从1885～1892年分三卷出版,虽然受到公众认可,但却受到同时代汉学家的严厉批评。本文尝试整理德理文在回应这些批评时提出的翻译论点,并通过一个案例来考察德理文的翻译理论和实践之间的张力。
